To participate in CAISO’s markets, resources must follow CAISO’s New Resource Implementation (NRI) process and schedule. That’s the formal process that ensures compliance with the CAISO Tarrif.

Remote Intelligent Gateway (RIG)
Trimark’s RIG fulfills CAISO’s requirement for realtime data-telemetry. Requirements include:
- RIG: Supports real-time, secure, bi-directional data telemetry between CAISO and your site equipment (e.g. revenue meters, plant interfaces, meteorological systems, PV inverters, and BESS). Trimark’s RIG includes rugged computing equipment (Trimark Data Gateway or SEL RTAC), software, design, configuration to CAISO’s telemetry-points spreadsheet, SSL certificate, installation, and testing.
- Telemetry: Resource owners must acquire an ECN connection through AT&T. Trimark will help you order the right thing, at the right time in the process.
- Market Participation: The RIG accepts and validates set point requests via Automated Generation Control (AGC) and/or CAISO’s Automated Dispatch System (ADS).
- Cloud-based ADS: Small BESS and PV resources can meet CAISO Dispatch Operating Targets (DOTs) required to participate in the Ancillary Services Market with cloud-based ADS.
- Support: Once you’re up and running, Trimark offers service agreements including maintenance and real-time monitoring of your RIG, ECN, and meter points. We provide early alerts if there’s trouble — often before CAISO sends a notice. That gives you time to correct issues, avoid penalties and maintain market participation. Trimark supports RIG devices using the Trimark Data Gateway, SEL RTAC, and NovaTech Orion.

We design your metering schemes and networks, procure equipment, configure meters, fabricate cabinets and panels, install meters in the field, connect meters to your CT/PTs, test accuracy and communications, support point-to-point testing, form submittal, then inspect and seal the installation – resulting in a CAISO-certified meter.
- CAISO Revenue Metering: We’ll help you understand the advantages of CAISO Metering Entity (CAISOME) and Scheduling Coordinator Metering Entity (SCME) approaches, then develop and deliver an end-to-end metering solution to meet your needs and CAISO requirements.
- BESS Idle: When your Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is dispatched to Zero or operating in Manual Mode (commonly termed “BESS Idle”), the CAISO Tariff requires that the meter doesn’t record both retail and wholesale load. - Complex Losses: Complicated generation environments often require sophisticated solutions to ensure accurate settlements. Trimark is the leader in metering complex PV and BESS clusters, multi-unit generation, and extended interconnection distances.
- Dynamic Loss Compensation: When multiple sites share a generation tie line, losses change in real time. Trimark’s loss compensation solutions ensure equitable loss assignment and accurate settlements.
- DC Metering: Many DC-coupled PV+BESS resources measure DC power at the component level – adding a high level of complexity to metering. To support DC-coupled resources, Trimark has pioneered DC meter configuration and testing processes to support the highest accuracy possible.
- Other Metering: Trimark has extensive experience with large meter networks, AMI, load metering, and more.
- Support: After installation, Trimark provides annual service agreements for automatic meter reading, meter data management, meter maintenance, repairs, emergency services, audits, and re-certification.
