Luna BESS
Project Type: 100 MW AC coupled BESS
Location: Lancaster, CA
Client/EPC: AESLuna BESS supports power stability by addressing the challenges of variable irradiance and curtailment. Luna BESS is located near the Big Sky substation which consolidates more than 700 MW of power generation from over 21 utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) resources spread across 60 square miles of high desert.
Trimark delivered plant controls for the Luna Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Trimark’s Vantage™ SCADA works in cooperation with the Fluence battery controller to manage the 100 MW/400MWh BESS and support stable power delivery at the Big Sky substation.
Trimark’s Vantage™ SCADA receives, validates, and executes ADS setpoints generated by CAISO. Simultaneously, the system works to maintain Voltage at the POI, as required by Southern California Edison’s Grid Code. To meet these requirements, Trimark’s Power Plant Controller measures power values at the POI, then sends real and reactive power setpoint commands to the Fluence BESS controller. Ongoing measurements and set point adjustments are made to maintain the target values.
