Four Steps to Meeting SQMD Audit Requirements
Trimark has successfully completed 2025 SQMD Plan Audits for its Scheduling Coordinator Metered Entity (SCME) clients in the CAISO and WEIM markets. The resulting audit reports enabled Scheduling Coordinators (SCs) to provide Affirmation to CAISO as required by their Settlement Quality Meter Data (SQMD) Plans.
In 2026, and all even-numbered years, CAISO rules state that each SCME resource must provide BOTH their annual Affirmation and a bi-annual Audit of processes used to produce Settlement Quality Meter Data (SQMD). The Self-Audit Attestation for each resource provides evidence of compliance with the CAISO Tariff. Requirements for Self-Audit are more comprehensive than Attestation (required every year).
Trimark strongly encourages SCs to get a head start on preparations for the 2026 audit.
Maintaining Compliance
Early planning will help ensure compliance and minimize last-minute challenges. Here are four suggestions for getting started:
- Identify the most current SQMD Plan document for each resource.
- Review the SQMD Plan and identify any changes in your process. If current processes differ from the filed plan, you may need to submit a SQMD Plan Modification.
- Schedule your 2026-meter calibration activities early in 2026 so they are completed prior to the end of the audit period (7/31/2026).
