Trimark Associates, Inc. is celebrating 25 years of success in delivering solutions that utility-scale electric power resources require to control generation, maintain regulatory compliance, maximize revenue, and support grid stability.
This period is marked by a string of fundamental changes in the industry. Throughout, Trimark has adapted, developed solutions, and deployed rock-solid systems to meet the resulting challenges. Today, Trimark solutions are the standard for revenue metering, secure data telemetry, reliable settlement data, and pinpoint control.
Over the last quarter century, the electric power sector has transformed in many ways — market operations; who can generate and sell electricity; and how authorities maintain grid stability. This evolution resulted from a variety of interrelated drivers including market deregulation, climate change, aging infrastructure, massive load growth (data centers, EV charging, industrial electrification), grid stability imperatives, and the introduction of balancing authorities (e.g. CAISO and ERCOT). One of the most dramatic changes has been the shift from relatively few, high-capacity resources supplying most generation to relying on many intermittent, distributed solar plants. Recently, large battery energy storage resources have joined the mix.
As a result, the industry faces a greater need than ever for accurate settlement data; real-time visibility into resource status; and the ability to execute complex control algorithms in a matter of milliseconds.
Over that 25 years, Trimark met these challenges with practical, reliable solutions as required to manage and operate critical infrastructure. We have guided over 1000 resources through the complexities of joining the electric power market and then supported their regulatory compliance.
Mark Morosky launched Trimark Associates (Trimark) on April 4, 2000 to help resource owners navigate regulatory and technological challenges related to metering energy transactions. Mark soon built Trimark into California’s premier metering company.
Trimark’s story grew from there. As generation sites grew in complexity, Trimark pioneered peer-to-peer metering and complex loss calculations. Trimark also recognized that it was uniquely positioned to help its customers meet other challenges of resource and grid management. When the industry needed secure, bi-directional data telemetry, Trimark developed and produced the CAISO RIG – allowing CAISO real time visibility into the status of more than 500 generation resources.
When utilities and balancing authorities required precise control, Trimark met the challenge with one of its most impactful innovations — Vantage SCADA. We launched this first-generation system in 2013 to monitor and control Photovoltaic (PV). As the energy sector evolved, Trimark adapted as well. Today, our master plant controller unifies management of PV and BESS resources to help resource owners maximize revenue, while supporting pinpoint accuracy for power delivery at the point of interconnection.
In the future, innovative thinking will be required to meet upcoming industry challenges. Trimark is up to the challenge. We’re already working on the next generation control system — a true SCADA solution that leverages AI and ML to refine resource control, integrate with the grid, support intelligent operations, and optimize production.
